Climate Risk and Business Resilience: From Science to Strategic Action

SciX, an EDHEC Venture, will participate in the inaugural EDHEC Climate Research Conference, taking place on 23 June 2026 at One Birdcage Walk, London, during London Climate Action Week (LCAW). Held under the theme “Climate Risk and Business Resilience: From Science to Strategic Action,” the conference will examine how investors and organisations can move beyond high-level climate scenarios toward practical tools that support strategic planning and risk management.

SciX Experts at the Conference

Scientific Portfolio will contribute to the conference programme with a session focused on science-based tools and case studies supporting resilient investment and business strategies. Drawing on Scientific Portfolio’s research in climate analytics and portfolio construction, the presentation will explore how investors and financial institutions can integrate climate science into investment decision-making and portfolio risk assessment.

SciX workshop (45min, in the Frank Whittle Room)
11.00am – 11.45am

Deep dive in the creation of a physically resilient climate index.

Attendees

  • SciX: Benjamin Herzog (CEO), Shahyar Safaee (Deputy CEO & Business Development Director), Jenita Brijmohun (Sales Director EMEA)
  • Institutional asset owners invited by SciX

The deep dive will examine the case for climate resilient equity indices as the physical effects of climate change (e.g., rising temperatures and more frequent extreme weather events). become more visible, The session will follow the Chatham House Rule to encourage an open dialogue between participants. The discussion will cover the following questions:

  • What are the possible challenges for an asset owner in integrating climate risk in portfolio construction?
  • What can physically resilient equity indices offer investors?
  • What are the pros and cons of taking a top-down, portfolio-wide approach to climate risk and resilience?
  • How can publicly recognized top-down foundational framework (e.g., NGFS, IPCC) be used to design a resilient equity index?

Applied Case Study (30min, in the Lecture Theatre)
12.30pm – 1.00pm

Physical climate risk in equity markets – quantifying region-sector heterogeneity and designing climate resilient equity indices.

Speakers

  • Benjamin Herzog, CEO, SciX (moderator)
  • Thibaut Heurtebize, Sustainable Structurer, BNP Paribas Global Markets
  • Shahyar Safaee, Deputy CEO / Business Development Director, SciX.

This applied case study will examine how climate physical risk may be quantified in equity markets using a top-down approach and the extent to which the approach can be integrated in the design of an equity benchmark. Our speakers will aim to answer the following questions during the session:

  • Why do you think that integrating climate physical risk is now becoming a priority for investors?
  • What requirements and/or concerns do you expect from investors wanting to design a climate resilient equity strategy?
  • There is a debate between top-down vs bottom-up approaches, do you have a view on this?
  • Is there a public and commonly accepted framework that supports a top-down quantification of climate physical risk?
  • What was needed to turn this framework into a methodology feeding an equity index?
  • What will investors need to see to start adopting physically resilient indices?

To encourage interactive discussions, the session will also include a demonstration of SciX analytics platform, presenting the climate and financial characteristics of a simple hypothetical resilient index.

About the Conference

The EDHEC Climate Research Conference 2026 will bring together global experts from finance, academia, infrastructure, and policy to explore how cutting-edge climate science can directly inform strategic and investment decisions. Hosted by the EDHEC Climate Institute during London Climate Action Week (LCAW) and held at One Birdcage Walk, London, the conference will present original research, data-driven case studies, and scientific tools addressing the financial materiality of climate risk from hyperlocal physical impacts to transition dynamics and regulatory frameworks.
